Vitamins and minerals

Unlike the macronutrients: fat, protein and carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals don’t contribute with energy to the body. On the other hand, the two groups of micronutrients are essential to ensure that the body functions optimally. There are a variety of vitamins and minerals that the body needs - all in different amounts. They all have different properties and effects, and therefore cannot replace each other. A healthy and varied diet can meet all the needs, and this is where the egg comes in to play.

The egg is a unique package of nutrients and contains almost all the vitamins and minerals the body needs. For twelve micronutrients the content is so high that the egg can be called “rich on” and “source of” the nutrient, covering 30% and 15% of the recommended daily amount respectively.

The table shows these twelve vitamins and minerals and what percentage of the recommended daily intake is covered by eating a 100g of eggs:
